Dr. Sharmila Khopade is a highly experienced Specialist Periodontist with expertise in non-surgical and surgical periodontal treatments, dental implants, periodontal plastic surgery, and laser dentistry. She is also trained in sedation techniques for anxious patients.

She holds an MDS in Periodontology & Oral Implantology, along with advanced certifications in implantology, periodontal plastic surgery, and laser dentistry from leading institutions in India, the UK, and Italy.

Although not based within our practice, we can refer patients to Dr. Sharmila Khopade, whose expertise in periodontal care and advanced gum treatments, we highly value to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Dr. Sharmila has received recognition for her contributions to periodontology, with published research, conference presentations, and awards. She is also an invited speaker at professional dental events.
Her commitment to excellence in patient care and continuous learning makes her a trusted expert in periodontal health.

Just had a tooth removed at Smile n Shine. I was very worried before the extraction as I had a previous bad experience with another dental practice some years ago. I considered sedation to calm my nerves but decided in the end not to go done this route. It was a justified decision as Dr Ketan Panwalkar was amazing. I felt no pain and the whole procedure took only 10 minutes. The support staff are polite and efficient. I can highly recommend this dental practice from my own experience.

I am very anxious at the dentist and I have been going to the same place since I was a kid before it was Smile n Shine. I must say, the transition has been made seamless and the practice is beautiful now. Haleema sorted everything for me and made sure that everyone knew how anxious as I was and were able to accommodate me. A meeting before my appointment occurred as well with Geethika who talked through everything with me and assured me everything would be okay. When I was with the dentist Dr Bhavika Parekh, she was lovely, accommodating, patient and didn't force me into doing anything. I successfully had 2 fillings and will be going to the Hygienist there soon. Highly suggest for anyone scared, even deathly afraid of the dentist. These guys are a perfect first step! 🙂

Dr. Ketan Panwalkar

Practice Owner and Dental Sedationist

Dr Ketan Panwalkar has quite a lot of experience/training with nervous patients. He qualified from India as a dentist in 2000 and thereafter pursued his post graduate training in Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry from Manipal Academy of Higher Education, India.

During his 2 year post-qualification study, he regularly was dealing with nervous/medically compromised children and in fact doing their full mouth rehabilitation (in form of restorations/root fillings/crowns) under sedation/general anaesthesia. Post study he practised in India for 3 years doing sedation alongside an anaesthetist and gaining valuable experience/knowledge and expertise in the field.

Since 2006, Ketan has been in the UK and keeping his interest in the field, did his SAAD (Society for Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry) in 2008-9 training and subsequently completed his 1 year Post Graduate Certificate Course in Dental Sedation and Pain Management from University College London (UCL) in 2010-11.

Interests: music (Indian and western classical), finished my Gr1 (ABRSM) piano, voracious reader, love tennis, golf, badminton squash.

Ever since Ketan has been regularly doing sedation on the National Health Service (weekly) and privately visiting dental practices in and around Hampshire since 2012-13. He continually keeps himself abreast of the updates in field of sedation and pain control in dentistry and is accredited on the Wessex Area Team (NHS England) Dentist with Special Interest in sedation list. He has good experience in assisting dentists/endodontists/oral surgeons in their operative procedures in nervous patients by helping them relax.

Ketan enjoys to visit various dental surgeries to assist dentists with sedation cases
